Torn Cornea

So our weekend was a little dramatic... or at least Sunday was. We went to church, and when we came home we put Landry down for his nap. He was perfectly normal and went right to sleep.

While he was napping, I went to my cousin's house to her Thirty One party. I came home around 2:30 so we could head to our friend Ethan's birthday party. When I got home Joel told me Landry was still asleep. He had woken up, but Joel said he was still acting really tired so he put him back down.

If you know me at all, you know that I hate being late, so I decided we could wake him up. He had been sleeping for 2.5 hours and that is a long nap for our little man. Usually when he wakes up he is immediately is happy self. That was not the case! AT ALL! He was screaming and crying and refused to open his eyes. I just held him close and told him he was in mommy's arms. He couldn't see and I could tell it was really freaking him out. So I just kept my voice calm and talk to him. On the inside, I was crying and scared and worried.

I started singing Jesus Loves Me and Amazing Grace to him while Joel looked up what could be wrong. After almost an hour of crying, not opening eyes, and nearly pure panic we decided to put him in the car. Our thought was that a change of scenery would make him open his eyes. Well, it didn't work. So I told Joel to drive around, we ended up back at my cousin's house. She is a nurse and I figured she could look at him. She rinsed his eyes with water and he finally opened them.

One of his eyes was just fine, the other one was super swollen and blood shot and not good at all. He started acting like himself again and we gave him some benadryl thinking it was an allergic reaction to something. We decided to take him to the urgent care center to make sure nothing else was wrong. I am so glad we did!!

When the doctor saw us she and she ask a bunch of questions. I mentioned that my cousin thought it might be a corneal scratch. She decided it wouldn't hurt to do the test. They put this neon stuff in his eye and then turned off a light and shined a black light. At first she didn't believe what she was seeing.

The stuff around the outside is his eye is just the stuff they put in it. The part directly over is actual eyeball, is NOT supposed to be there. Needless to say, the doctor was very surprised. She proceed to call it a tear not a scratch. She told us we need to see an ophthamologist as soon as possible. She prescribed some eye drops to help prevent infection.

Anyway, long story short we went and saw a cornea specialist today. He was able to look into Landry's eye and see that it was a tear, but it is almost complete healed already! The eye is one of the fastest healing areas on the body. He said it was only on the surface and not any deeper. He shouldn't have any lasting damage. His vision is great! And Landry loved the appointment because ALLLLLLLL of the techs were eating out of the palm of his hand. He was the center of attention and designated himself the official door greeter and waved and blew kisses to everyone who came in. I think there were a couple of people visiting that office today that need some uplifting, and Landry was just the guy to do it.

LBU Graduation and Our Weekend

On Friday, we headed over to Shreveport, LA to attend my father-in-law's graduation ceremony. He is already considered Dr. Howard. He has his LLD (on honorary degree) and his EdD., but those weren't doing the trick... So now he has his PhD. I jokingly called him Dr. Dr. Dr. Howard.

After a 3 hour car ride Landry was ready to get out and explore.

But there's always time for a photo op!

And time to read a book... during the ceremony. Landry did great, but it was definitely nap time. As soon as my FIL crossed the stage my MIL took him in the back and he fell right to sleep.

And here you have it folks...

Of course, you have to have a photo of the dean!

Landry was still asleep when the service was over,

but not for long!

I am so blessed to have a child who loves to sleep, but who always wakes up happy!

After the ceremony, they had a big crawfish boil for everyone! I managed not to get any pictures of that. Landry did crawl up on stage and into (literally) the pulpit.
On Saturday, Joel and I woke up early and work ALL day on some of his school work. (Joel is working on his MBA). Sounds boring, right? Well, it was! However, Saturday night we went to Fogo de Chao to celebrate! I had never been! BOY WAS IT GOOD!

Landry made a new friend, but he seems to do that everywhere we go.

His new FAVORITE thing to do is high five everyone! So if you see a picture of him lifting his hand like this, it's because he wants a high five!

If you've never been, I highly recommend it. The service was amazing!! Best I've ever had. They even cut up a banana and brought it for Landry!

And dessert... well, see for yourself!

Sunday was a typical day for us! We went out for Mexican food (El Chico) after lunch, I mean come on it WAS Cinco de Mayo after all!

He's got his grandmas right where he wants them...

Weekend Update {April 12 and 13}

In keeping with the theme of the weekend, Saturday Joel and I met up with some friends from ABF for Top Golf. Joel and I had never been before. In the past every time we had the opportunity something came up. So I was so glad to finally go!

We had lots of fun! Joel and I were terrible at it.

I mean, is that not the WORST FORM EVER! I have been to the driving range twice in my life, but lets face it my boobs are just too big for golf!

We had lots of time to relax in between, and the weather could not have been more perfect for this event. (Ok, maybe we could have had a little less wind).

Parker even joined in on the fun!

In golf you alway go for the lowest score, right? So technically I won... (not true in Top Golf)

On Saturday night, we had a few friends over for dinner and farkle! (much more my speed)

However, Saturday evening Landry was running a high fever... poor guy! He just can't stay well.

We stayed home from church on Sunday, we didn't want to spread our sick germs. Landry did try to share his crackers with mommy though. Such a sweet boy.

Our poor boy is still running a fever, but we took him to the doctor and got a different antibiotic. Hopefully, he will be back to normal soon.

Weekend Update {April 6 and 7}

We had a very busy weekend!

Saturday morning I went shopping while Joel did yard work. When I got home, I helped him out.

I forgot to take before pictures, but here is an after picture.

That evening we headed out to my Great- Grandma's 94th birthday.

We all got baths including Landry and I couldn't help but comb is hair to the side. Did he grow up over night or what?

My sweet Granny.

The whole gang that was there, our family is HUGE, so this isn't everyone.

Granny

I have to say that Landry is a HAM!!! Everyone was singing happy birthday and taking pictures of Granny and Landry was just smiling and laughing. When everyone clapped at the end he looked up at me with his big brown eyes. He thought this was all about him! I don't think we have to worry about him at his first birthday...

He even snuck in a bite of the icing right off the cake! Makes me excited about his birthday, I can't believe it is only 3 months away!!!!

On Sunday we went to church. We had a big fellowship in our ABF this week, I made biscuits and gravy! YUMMY! Then I worked with the 4 year olds during worship. Then came home and relaxed before we headed back out for Small Group.

Overall, it was a great weekend!

Weekend Update

We had a long weekend! It started on Friday when Joel's family flew into town. We had lunch at Red Robin.

Then we headed up to the church to set up for the memorial. We came back to our house afterwards to hanging out and let everyone relax before going out to dinner at Houlihans. Landry was up till 10pm! WAY past his bedtime especially since he didn't get his afternoon nap. But he did GREAT! Seriously, he was so happy the whole time. We are so blessed to have such a happy go lucky baby.

Saturday, we slept in (Landry slept till 9)! Then Benjamin and I made a big breakfast for everyone. We knew we would be eating again until 5:30 or 6. And boy were we right.

The Memorial was great. It was a fabulous tribute to Dr. Howard, and I learned so much about Joel's grandpa. Landry was like a celebrity. Everyone recognized him from his pictures on Facebook, and they all thought he was so cute. (I agree :))

Sunday we went to the church Joel grew up in. We've been a couple of times together, but it was nice to for the whole family there together. Landry got to see Shiloh again. Apparently, every time she sees his picture she just stares and stares. She was so cute see it in person.

The church is very small, and they don't have a nursery for little ones Landry's age. SO he went to church with us. He did good, but it made me so so so so thankful for our church and all the ladies that volunteer every Sunday to watch our sweet boy!!!

After church we ate lunch and then came home. It was a beautiful day so Benjamin got out his guitar and he and Breanne had a jam session.

Later that afternoon we did a Howard family photo shoot. More on that later. Then we had all of the extend family over for pizza and fellowship.

Landry and Leo both got lots of attention. And they loved it. That just about sums up our busy weekend, how was yours?

Weekend Update

Friday night we went out to Red Lobster so Joel could enjoy the 45 shrimp for $11.99. We let Landry sit in a high chair for the first time. He loved it.

It was the first time that we had been out to a sit down restaurant just the 3 of us. He was so interested in the menus, our classes, the bread, basically anything we set on the table.

We went home and put little man to bed and watched TV.

On Saturday, we got up early (no sleeping in with a baby) and cleaned up before we had friends over to see Landry. This is me in my new top! Pinterest has inspired me to try new outfits.

That night we had my parents, sister and her friend over to play games.

Sunday morning we went to church and then ran some errands. It was Landry's first time in his big boy carseat.

We went to lunch at Cane's while we were out and Landry couldn't stop starring at the disco ball.

We headed home to nap and then went to a get together with our small group from ABF. It was a great weekend!
