Today I am linking up with Shay,  Sheaffer, and Mel and Get Your Pretty On. To show you an outfit I wore this month that was inspired by Pinterest!

I wore a few (what I would call) cute outfits, but I only remembered to take a picture one day.

I found this on Pinterest back in Sept and bought a similar skirt so I could recreate this outfit. Here is my take on it!

Shirt - New York and Co
Necklace - Very Jane
Jacket - JCPenny (Years ago)
Skirt - Old Navy
Shoes - New York and Co

This skirt is seriously the most comfortable ever!

New and Improved

What do you think of the NEW AND IMPROVED blog? (I am still working on the about us, our debt story, and our projects sections, so check back soon)

It's time to tell you all about a new adventure I have started...

I have been reading a blog called Dollars and Roses. This couple started out on the adventure to make money while blogging a few years ago. They have been very open and honest about their journey and how they have made it successful. They have lots and I mean lots of helpful tips.

Each month Dollars and Roses post their monthly financial statement. This got me thinking... I have a blog, I love writing about my family, could I make money at this too?

If you've read here long, then you know that my dream job would be staying home with our sweet boy! However, right now we are trying to pay off debt... We have made a lot of progress you can read about it here, here, here and here (and a few other locations). We have been going through the Dave Ramsey baby steps. If you listen to Dave at all, you hear him talk all the time about picking up an extra job to help you pay the debt quicker. Well folks, this is my extra job!

Dave Ramsey FPU

You see, I started this blog almost 4 years ago with the intention of keeping our family updated on our life. I soon learned about this awesome online community where people help people and pray for each other and love on each other. I love being a part of this community! And reading all of your stories! Joel sometimes has to ask me if the person I am talking about is a real friend or a blog friend because I talk about you all like we know each other and really we've never met.

Since this is such a great community, I thought I would ask for your help.

  • Would you please become an official google follower? I would be forever grateful! (I will be doing a giveaway soon for all my google followers)
  • Will you go to my facebook page and like it. You can click the button at the top or here.
  • If you like a post tell your friends or pin it on Pinterest (I now have a button at the bottom of each post.)
  • If you have a blog and are interested in doing a button swap I would love to hear from you! Leave me a comment and we can work out the details!
  • Last, if you have any advice or helpful hints, I would love to hear them!
Thanks for all of your support! I will keep you all updated on my progress and post about new things that I learn!

Weigh In Wednesday

Sorry I am a little late today. As always I am linking up with Erin and Alex for my weigh in.

I am back down to after my gain last week. That's a total weight loss so far 5.4lbs!

Woo hoo! Plus, I am loving boot camp. Monday afternoon my trainer called me to see how things were going and it was so nice for her to hold me accountable. I also happened to mention that I didn't push myself as hard as my sister pushes herself. Well... today she pulled me up to the front row with the girls who have been there for awhile.

Of course, I didn't want to be behind (I was in the front after all), so I pushed myself to keep up and not slack off! I have never sweat that much at boot camp! My legs are still jelly...

Totally worth it though!

PS- what do you think of the new look?

Bluebonnets 2013

I LOVE living in TEXAS! I love Blue Bell Ice Cream, Dr. Pepper, Texas Rangers, Texas pride and the Dallas Cowboys. But one of my favorite things about Texas is that every Spring our state flower, the bluebonnet, blooms.

We decided to start a fun tradition with our little family of taking bluebonnet pictures every year! I can't wait to see our family changes and grows.

We made our first attempt at pictures on Monday. However, Landry wasn't himself. We got a few pictures, but you can tell he wasn't feeling well. This is the best I could get.

He was more interested in eating the flowers!

So this past Saturday, we had another beautiful day. We decided to give it another go! These turned out much better!

Landry was dressed much cuter the first day, but the "My Mom Rocks" shirt makes me happy!

Our sweet boy was laughing with his mouth wide open the entire time!

Mommy and Daddy even got in a few pictures! (Thanks to Aunt B)

My family even got in a few!

Have sock will travel

Landry's latest 'trick' is pulling is sock off and then taking it EVERYWHERE with him.

Landry plays with his truck... sock in hand.

Landry tries to share with mommy... sock in hand.

Landry plays with his table... sock in hand.

Landry plays with his ball... sock in hand.

He eats his bottle and dances... sock in hand.

Landry crawls.... sock in hand.

Seriously, it has become his security blanket. At least when he sticks it in his mouth it soaks up some of the drool.

Lessons from my Son

Landry has taught me many things in his short little life. I should write a post on all of those things one of these days. But today I want to talk about the way Landry sees people.

Landry doesn't see how people look, he doesn't care if you are fat or skinny, tall or short, he doesn't care what color your skin is, he doesn't care if you're bald or hairy, he doesn't care if you're toothless. He simply sees a person.

He will smile at you until you just can't help but smile back. He draws people to himself, he can turn a bad day into a good one.

Everywhere we go, people always compliment me on happy he is and how cute he is. I am not saying this to brag. Honestly, I think much of his cuteness comes from the fact that he makes EVERYONE feel loved. I have had people tell me "Oh, babies never smile at me, but look at that he likes me". And the truth is he does!

Landry draws people to himself with his smile and his joy. In a world that is so dark and so desperate for God's love, I can't help but think that Landry is spreading that love.

You see, Landry sees people the way God sees them. He doesn't yet have any preconceived notions. He doesn't judge anyone, he just loves them and smiles at them.

I want to see people the way my son sees people. I want people to be drawn to me the way they are to him, so that I can show them Christ's love. I want people to know the joy I have in Christ.

After all the things that have happened this week, I have come to realize that our nation (and our world) needs God. What if one simple smile can show His love? What if all Christians (including myself) saw others the way Landry and God see people?

I pray for/with/over Landry every single day. I pray that God will use Landry's joyful spirit to bring others to Himself. I also pray that he will never lose the joy he has now. And I pray that I will have the wisdom to raise him for God's glory.

Calling All Mommies - Tubes in Ears

I never pictured myself as the rush to the doctor kind of mom. I rarely go to the doctor myself and I would prefer not to take medicine unless I absolutely have to. But when it comes to Landry, I don't even hesitate to rush him to the doctor.

We have been to the doctor more times than I can count in his 9 month
life. I am pretty sure he has his momma allergies (poor kid). Anyway, ear infections have been non stop for us since January (when he started school). It seems like just about the time he finishes an antibiotic he gets another one.

I can't complain for myself because my sick Landry is better than some peoples normal baby, but I just feel so helpless when he is sick. I know he is in pain and I want so badly to take it away for him.

Anyway, this past Monday while at the doctor she brought up the idea of putting tubes in his ears. The doctor said she would rather be proactive about it since he has proven he is prone to getting them. He can thank me for that...

I had tubes in my ears 2 or 3 times as a baby/toddler. I survived, honestly, I don't even remember it. However, I have a slight (I mean slight) hearing loss in my right ear.

If we are going to do it, I would rather do it now than wait any longer. He has been on several antibiotics over the past few months and I don't want him to become used to them or continue to take them constantly. (They HORRIBLE, I mean horrible diaper rash)

  • Do you have any experience with this?
  • Do you have any advice?
  • Did your child have tubes?
  • Did it make things better/worse/same?
  • Would you do it again if you had to?
  • How old was your child?

I think we are going to make the appointment with the pediatric ENT, but I would love to know your experience or advice.

And because it's super cute this was him at the doctors office. (We have our moments, but for the most part you would never guess he is sick)

Weigh in Wednesday

Linking up with Ern and Alex for my weekly weigh in!

Not going to lie, I had a rough weekend... and Monday and Tuesday... but I stepped on the scale this morning anyway. I gained! 3 pounds! I knew it was going to be a gain, but it was really depressing to see that big of a number, I was finally getting things moving in the opposite direction.

I like what Erin said this morning about faking it till you make it. I feel like that is what I am doing most days. So this morning in a dangerous attempt to make myself feel better (I say dangerous because if it hadn't worked I would be worse off) I tried on some pants I got for Christmas that were too small.

GUESS WHAT?!?! They fit! I was able to zip them, and more importantly I was able to sit down in them! So I am wearing them to work.

The moral of the story is that sometimes its not about the number on the scale, sometimes its about how YOU feel! Today, I am choosing to look at the positive!

I keep telling myself this!

Weekend Update {April 12 and 13}

In keeping with the theme of the weekend, Saturday Joel and I met up with some friends from ABF for Top Golf. Joel and I had never been before. In the past every time we had the opportunity something came up. So I was so glad to finally go!

We had lots of fun! Joel and I were terrible at it.

I mean, is that not the WORST FORM EVER! I have been to the driving range twice in my life, but lets face it my boobs are just too big for golf!

We had lots of time to relax in between, and the weather could not have been more perfect for this event. (Ok, maybe we could have had a little less wind).

Parker even joined in on the fun!

In golf you alway go for the lowest score, right? So technically I won... (not true in Top Golf)

On Saturday night, we had a few friends over for dinner and farkle! (much more my speed)

However, Saturday evening Landry was running a high fever... poor guy! He just can't stay well.

We stayed home from church on Sunday, we didn't want to spread our sick germs. Landry did try to share his crackers with mommy though. Such a sweet boy.

Our poor boy is still running a fever, but we took him to the doctor and got a different antibiotic. Hopefully, he will be back to normal soon.

How was your weekend?

Saturday, April 13, 2013

Before I start I just want to say that this is my 400th post! When I started this blog almost 4 years ago, I had no idea where it would lead, but it has been a fun adventure. Hopefully, there will be many more!

I had a major Pinterest fail on Tuesday night. I told you on Monday in my Meal Planning, that I was going to try a new recipe and I will let you know how it goes...

Well, it was terrible. But I have to say most all of it was due to the chef... Here's the story:

Joel's mom makes WW Banana Chocolate Chip. I hate HATE bananas (it's a texture and a taste thing), but I really like the pancakes. So I went on a mission to find them. I found 3 recipes here, here and here.

I went with the last one. It was the easiest, had the fewest ingredients, and I had all the ingredients on hand. The other two called for a special ingredient I would have to go out and find.

chocolate chip pancakes

This was my first attempt. I didn't let it set long enough so when I went to flip it, it scrunched up.

The second one looks fine, right? Wrong! The other side is burnt to a crisp. And the inside was still runny...

Try number 3... yeah you can see the mess I made... I accidentally used the rest of the batter. I thought I would be better off, but it turns out that it didn't help. This one was even thicker than the previous one, but I turned the heat down hoping it wouldn't burn.

It still burned. I think part of the problem was that the banana pancakes didn't spread as easily as normal  pancakes.

My horrible pancake experience. Do you have advice on making pancakes? How do you know when they are ready to flip? How do you flip them without splattering the batter? What size pan do you use?

Any advice would be appreciated... we ended up eating ramen...

How to make your own wipes - update

Today I linking up with House of Rose to show you an on going task for me. If your baby has sensitive skin these are perfect!

Making your own wipes is super easy! And even better it's extremely cheap!!

Items needed:
  • Bounty Select-a-size paper towels
  • Baby oil
  • Baby wash
  • Water
  • A water tight container

I bought my container at Target, it was $17, so it's a little bit expensive in up front cost. However, when we are finished making wipes I can use it in the pantry!

Step 1: Cut the roll of paper towels in half. Use a smooth knife, if you use a serrated knife it frays the paper towels and they get every where!

Step 2: Pull the cardboard part out of the center.

Step 3: Put 1 tablespoon of oil, 1 tablespoon of baby wash, and 1 cup of water in the container.

Step 4: Add the paper towels, let it sit for a few seconds until everything absorbs.

Step 5: Flip the container upside down and leave it there for an hour or more. This allows all the liquid to absorb all the way through the paper towels.

Tada, that's it! Now, you can make your own wipes! For pennies and Landry has never had any problems with diaper rash!

**Update March 2013: If the wipes aren't moist enough for your liking you can use 1.5 cups of water, 1.5 tbsp of oil and wash each.

The Masters - HMA Style

Y'all, I am so blessed to work for an amazing company. Everyone is our office is kind, generous, and hard working. I am also privileged to be head of the social committee. You can think of it like The Office's "Part Planning Committee", although I promise I am not as mean as Angela. :)

So in case you haven't heard yesterday was the first round of the Masters.

So our office kicked off by having a 6 hole putting course.

Some of the men in our office took it very seriously, while others goofed off.

You had to putt around corners, through obstacles, and around obstacles.

Believe it wasn't just about the guys either. We had plenty of women get it on the action.

I take very little credit for this event. Brett had the idea and ran with it. It turned out AWESOME! It was so much fun!

Jeff (in the background) takes credit for being the best caddy of the day.

We enlarged photos of some of our executives and used them on the holes.

We even had official "Quiet" signs.

Overall, it was a great event and we had tons of fun! I would recommend this has a fun office event for anyone.
