'Trash' Trail Mix

Today I wanted to share a favorite family recipe with you! Every year around the holidays my mom, sisters, and I get together to make what we call 'trash'. This is super easy to make and taste so yummy!

ingredients for trail mix

4 cups of Chex corn cereal
4 cups of Chex wheat cereal
4 cups of Chex rice cereal
4 cups shoe string potatoes
4 cups Frenchs fried onions
8 tbls worchester
1 stick of butter
2 tbls garlic salt
2 packages of taco seasoning
(There are nuts pictured above and they are optional. I don't like them so I chose not to add them.)

1. Preheat the oven to 225 degrees

2. Mix the cereals, fried onions, and shoe string potatoes. Stir and make sure they are well mixed and then add the taco seasoning and garlic salt.

3. In a small sauce pan melt the stick of butter and worchester together.

4. Once the butter is melted pour a 3rd of it on the cereal mixture. Stir and add another 3rd. Mix and repeat.

5. Add the lid and put it in the oven for 15 minutes. After 15 minutes take it out and stir, repeat every 15 minutes for 45 minutes.

6. Put in little containers and eat up!

22 days of Thanksgiving {Day 13 - 22}

I didn't forget I was doing this, I promise. I just decided that one little tiny post wasn't that great, I felt like I needed to write more. And then the husband took over the computer.

Day 13 - I am thankful for my in-laws. They did a great job raising my husband, and I now have the brothers I always wanted.

Day 14 - I am thankful for our church and for the wonderful friends we have made there. It is so nice to have people who are in the same stage of life that are able to relate to us and support us!

Day 15 - I am thankful for running water, and hot water at that!

Day 16 - I am music, it always seems to put me in a better mood. There is a song for every emotion I feel.

Day 17 - I am thankful my Grandma. She watches Landry 2 times a week. It is a huge blessing to us and I don't know what we would do without her!

Day 18 - I am thankful for our extended families. We are both close with our cousins and Aunt and Uncles. It is so nice to have so many people in our lives that love us, pray for us, and support us constantly.

Day 19 - I am thankful for my car. She is nothing fancy, but she is better than most. Bluetooth is my best friend, I don't think I will ever be able to buy another car without it. (Also, I don't know why I just referred to my car as 'she')

Day 20 - I am thankful for weekends. They give me time to spend with my boys and refresh for the next week.

Day 21 - I am thank for chocolate... enough said.

Day 22 - I am thankful for Dr. Pepper, southern hospitality, chicken fried everything, football, middle names, monogrammed clothes, and everything else that comes with being from the south!

Thanksgiving 2012

We have so much to be thankful for this year. Our sweet baby boy is just one of a million things!

We began the morning at my grandma's house. We enjoyed a yummy breakfast! There is just something about a grandma's cooking! Seriously, can I get an Amen.

Landry enjoyed getting to 'watch' the parade and hang out with family.

He is just too cute in his little Turkey onesie!

My Uncle Billy just loves Landry! It's so cute when he sees him. (PS- he's the reason I don't think Landry will be scared of Santa... doesn't Uncle Billy look like Santa without the hat?)

After breakfast we headed back to our house. My Aunt Sue was coming over with her daughter and grandkids. They went to the State Fair with us us so the kids were super excited to see Landry. My Aunt told me that Lily woke up and said "Is today the day we get to go to Landry's house?"

Landry was so interested in what Lily was saying.

Everyone took turns holding him. This is Lily.

Then Alex had a turn.

And then little Miss Blair. Her brother Blaine is too cool to hold him. ;)

How many people does it take to carve a turkey?

And what's Thanksgiving without a family photo session?

My beautiful family {Joel, Me, Landry, My mom, Breanne, Dad, and Emily}

My gorgeous Aunt and her two beautiful daughter Ashley and Lindsey

Aunt Sue with her Grandkids Alex, Lily, Blair and Blain

And not to be leftout Ashley's fiance Chad.

We had such a wonderful Thanksgiving! I hope yours was equally great!

22 days of thanksgiving {Day11}

I am so thankful for our veterans. For my dad, Pawpaw, and countless others who have fought so that I can live in a country that is free.

Joel and I have friends who are in the Air Force. Renee is a photographer and she has captured several families who soldiers are coming home. Every time I see these images I tear up. You can check out one such session here. Currently, Renee and Andy are serving in Japan. I can't imagine being away from my family, but I know my mom did it with me and my sister.

So to all the families past, present, and future who serve in our military... THANK YOU!

Locks of Love

I would love to give blood, but the truth is I am not allowed. I lived in Germany for more than 6 months, so because of mad cow disease I am not allowed. I wish I could, and maybe someday I will be able to.

So since I can't give blood, I give hair. Locks of Love is such an amazing organization. I have given to them 3 times in the past. The first time I donated my hair I gave in memory of my Aunt Shirley who passed away of lung cancer, the second time was in memory of my Papaw who died of colon cancer, and third time in honor of my cousin Kelley who survived breast cancer.

This time was a donation in honor of Joel's Mimi who going through Merkel Cell Carcinoma. She is such a strong woman and her faith is inspiring. She has a blog which you can follow here. at the end of every post she always says "The big “C” in me is Christ enabling me to deal with the little “c” cancer.” And let me tell you, that is exactly how she lives her life.

So today I went to the salon with 8" of hair to give.

And came out with a beautiful new hairstyle!

We were able to make two pony tails because my hair is so thick!

When I was a little girl, I loved having long hair. I can't imagine not having braids or pig tails growing up. So I hope that my hair will bring a smile to some little girl's face.

And Mimi I hope you know that we love you and are praying for you.

And just for good measure here is all the hair I left on the floor...

22 days of thanksgiving {Day 10}

Today I am thankful for my health. I so often take it for granted. I have no major health issues, I was able to carry and deliver a healthy baby.

Rolling, rolling, rolling

Right before Landry turned 3 months old he rolled over in his crib. I think he did it in his sleep because when we heard the crying and looked on the monitor he had already done it. Well I have been trying to get him to do it ever since. And wouldn't you know he didn't want to.

Then all of a sudden this week while I was at work he started rolling over every time anyone put him in his crib. For the life of me I couldn't see him do it. It's enough to make you go crazy.

Well, today (his 4 month birthday) I decided I would video during tummy time. And he rolled over!! This was one excited momma. Excuse my craziness in the video I was just too happy!!

22 days of thanksgiving {Day 9}

Today I am thankful for little milestones. If you want to know what I am talking about check out this. These little BIG things remind mind me of how healthy our sweet baby boy really is. I thank God for him everyday, but especially on days like this.

Also, today... he decided to hold his own bottle.

22 days of thanksgiving {Day 8}

OH MY... what would I do without these two girls (women). Seriously, I don't know what I would do without them. We have had our moments, but growing up we did everything together... and still do. We have some of the craziest time together with WAY more inside jokes to count. I love my sisters so much and I am so thankful to have them.

22 days of thanksgiving {Day 7}

I am so thankful for my wonderful parents. I am so blessed to have been raised by a mom and dad who love Jesus and love each other. My mom taught me how to be spontaneous and to always see the best in everything! And my dad showed me what it means to be a hard worker and that I can do anything I put my mind to.

I would not be the woman I am today without these two amazing people in my life. I am so blessed to call them mom and dad!

22 day of thanksgiving {Day 6}

I am thankful for the right to vote! Our Founding Fathers knew what they were doing all those years ago when they gave us that right. I hope our country can get back to the values we were founded on.

I am also thankful for the men and women was have fought and are fighting for us to keep that right.

22 days of thanksgiving {Day 5}

I am so thankful for our beautiful home. It is more than just a house to us. If we had built a house, this would have been it. It has everything we wanted and more.

I am so thankful for the neighborhood we live in. It is safe and has lots of fun parks and pools in it. We are also blessed to live close to friends and family. It is such a beautiful place and I can't wait to raise Landry (and our other children... hopefully... someday) here.

22 days of thanksgiving {Day 4}

Today I am thankful for my sweet baby boy. I never knew I would love being a mom so much. Landry James truly brings joy to my life every single day

Even the bad days aren't so bad when I get  to see my sweet boy smile at me. He literally lights up the whole room when he smiles. He is such an easy, happy baby. It is so much fun to see the world through his eyes.

22 days of thanksgiving {Day 3}

I am so thankful for my husband! Seriously, I married superman. He is a great husband, dad, son, son-in-law, brother, friend, and good at every role he plays in his life.

Joel takes such good care of me (and Landry, of course). He constantly makes me feel like I am the most important thing in the world! He works so hard to provide for us. For those of you who don't know, Joel has gone back to school for his MBA. He knows I want to stay home with Landry and he is doing everything he can to make that happen.

Watching him interact with Landry melts my heart! I can already tell how much Landry loves his daddy.

This is one of my favorite pictures of the two of them. Pure love!

Joel is one of the hardest workers I have ever met, he so patient, he is kind and he has very generous heart. I am so thankful that God brought us together.

22 days of thanksgiving {Day 2}

I am thankful for my faith. I am SOOO grateful to have a God who loves me so much that He would send His son to die a horrible death on a cross just for me. (For you too of course). And that on the 3rd day He rose from the grave. I am so glad that even though I stumble daily that He still chooses to love me. He never takes His grace away and I can never be plucked from His hand.

If you don't know my Lord and Savior, please ask! I am always willing to share!

Trying out a new hairstyle

Landry has really bad cradle crap, so before bath time we use this special shampoo in his hair. It is really thick so it act almost like hair gel. I thought it would be fun to try out some new hair style on our little man. What do you think?

Combed over

22 days of thanksgiving {Day 1}

Originally, I was going to write these in order of importance. However, I have had a bit of a rough day. Nothing bad happened, I just missed my boy today. (More than normal)

So today I would like to say that I am thankful for my job. Seriously, I love the company that I work for, and they are so flexible with my schedule it is amazing. For those of you who do not know, I work from home part time so that I can be with Landry. I also have extremely flexible hours, so I am able to work around Landry being sick or other things that come up. I have some of the best coworkers, people that have become my friends. I love that I am able to openly talk about my faith and I have friends at work that will sit down and pray with me.

It's not always easy to go to work. Most days I would rather be home with Landry, but since I have to work at this point in my life there is no other group of people I would rather work with.

22 days of Thanksgiving

Each year in the month of November I always see people posting on Facebook daily about something they are thankful for.Well, I have decided to do that on my blog. It will give me the opportunity and challenge to blog everyday in November. I will do my first post later today.

Will you join me and tell us what you are thankful for?
