What's in a name?

I have had lots of people ask me about the name we have chosen for our little boy, so I thought I would take time to explain it.

First of all, he is named after two great men.

Legendary Dallas Cowboys football coach Tom Landry.

And his middle name is after my dad, James.

If you know Joel and I at all, then you know that we are huge football fans. We like both college and professional, although I prefer college better. So one Saturday when we were watching OU play (not a team I typically follow) I heard their QB's name. Landry Jones. I asked Joel if he liked it, he said he did. Then I said seriously Joel do you like it cause I'm in love with that name. He said yes, so I said if we have a boy can we name him Landry. He agreed with the stipulation that we tell everyone that he is named after Tom Landry instead. Which is fine with me! That was just the first time I had heard it as a first name.

So while we were in Florida at Christmas every night we would try to come up with a middle name. Joel has lots of boys in his family and we knew we wanted it to be a family name. James sounded the best so that's what we went with. And since my dad never had any boys I am pretty sure he is ok with us using his name.

Someone at work the other day told me it sounded like the name of a wide receiver. I said "That's what we were going for." :)

Hopefully, Landry will like his name as much as we do. If not, at least he has a cool story of his mom watching football to come up with it.

Getting ready for a boy?

So the day we found out we were having a boy my family came over so we could tell them. Leo gets so excited when people come over. Anyways at some point in the excitement he ripped off a toe nail. Poor puppy didn't care or seem to notice.

I only notice when I saw blood on our white couch. After we realized it we went back through the house and found little bloody paw prints all over the place. It took awhile, but with our 'band aid' it did stop bleeding.

I am sure I will see lots of skinned knees and elbows in my days as the mom of a boy. I guess Leo just wanted to start preparing me.

Telling our families it was a boy

First of all my sweet sister came over and decorated our kitchen.

Then Joel and I did our reveal! We knew we wanted to do something fun beside just calling and saying the gender. So we look online at several different ways to reveal it and came up with this one.

I covered the box in wrapping paper the night before and on our way home from the doctor we stopped by Party City and picked up the balloons. It was kind of tricky getting the balloons to come out of the box correctly, but I think everyone got the point.

Then we enjoyed the wonderful taco salad dinner my sister had prepared.

It's a BOY!

We are so happy to announce that we are having a BOY

Landry James Howard

This also means I have never successfully guessed the gender of a pregnant woman's baby (not even my own). But oh well, I don't care!

We are so excited about having a boy. Joel is going to have so much fun teaching him about cars, football, guns, tools, etc. I can't wait to see the relationship they are going to have with each other. My mind is already wondering to what he will look like, what kind of personality he will have, and all those other things I am sure you moms wondered about your babies.

PS- If you have any boy items you wouldn't mind loaning out we are accepting donations :) I promise I will give them back when Landry out grows them or we are no longer needing them. Just thought I would throw that out there.
