Boy or Girl?

In the belly I do grow
Tiny hands and tiny toes
Secret will my gender be
Let's see if you correctly guess me...
One week and one day till we find out the gender of our sweet little baby! We are so excited! So I thought I would give you all the chance to to guess what were having. Here are a few of my symptoms...
-Craving sour and spicy = Boy
-No morning sickness = Boy
-More zits than usual = Girl
-Heart rate at 7 wk of 166 and 14 wk of 145 = you decide
-Chinese gender chart = Boy
-I sleep on my right side = Girl
-My urine is clear = Girl

My intuition is that we are having a girl. I am not quite sure why I think that, but it's what I am leaning towards. So here's your chance, leave us a comment letting us what you think the gender is!

17 weeks

how far along?  17 weeks
how are you measuring?  17 weeks
size of baby? According to the Baby Bump app on my phone our baby is about the size of an onion 5.1 inches and the weighs about 5.9 oz.
heartbeat?   145 bpm (at our 14 week appt)
total weight gain/loss? 0bs
maternity clothes? Maternity jeans and slacks
sleep? Waking up at night to go to the bathroom and sleeping on my side so it takes longer for me to fall asleep.
best moment this week?  Honestly, it was a pretty average week.
movement? Hopefully soon!
food cravings/aversions? I randomly craved chips and ranch dip this week. And I have noticed since I have been pregnant chocolate doesn't taste as good. These days if I have a choice I would rather have something fruity.
gender predictions? Either way I will be completely fine with whatever God blesses us with.
what i miss: Sleeping on my stomach. I have been trying to sleep on my side this week, but I am just not used to it so it takes me longer to get to sleep.
what i'm looking forward to: Finding out the gender, only 1 week and 2 days.
how are you feeling? I had a good morning, I felt more like my stomach looked pregnant rather than fat! I told Joel it was a skinny day.
pregnancy moments: I the only thing I can think of is that while we were playing a game with friends we had to come up with what S.A.H.A.N.D., well the answer I came up with had N=Knee. Ha! It sounds like it starts with an N, but it doesn't. (BTW it stands for Society Against Have A Nice Day... lol)

Lieden Factor V

For those of you who don't know my mom was diagnosed with Lieden Factor V a few years ago. She was diagnosed after getting a blood clot in her during a hospital stay. Her oldest brother also has the disease. Basically, what it does is it makes you more prone to getting blood clots. If you would like to find out more about the disease you can here. This disease is hereditary, which wasn't a big deal until I became pregnant.

Doctors told my sisters and I that we wouldn't need to worry about being test until 1) we were having major surgery 2) got pregnant. So when I found out I was pregnant, I told the doctor about my mom having Factor V. She tested me for it, and it turns out I have it. My doctor told me I would have to take medicine for it everyday while I was pregnant, but that it wouldn't affect my everyday life.

Joel and I went to pick up my prescription and they handed us a huge bag, like brown paper grocery bag sized (for a one month supply). I immediately knew what this meant... I was not going to be taking a pill everyday, I had to give my self an injection everyday.

So my nightly routine consist of the following...

Reading my Bible

Brushing my teeth, washing my face, taking my prenatal vitamin, and getting injected

Warning the next image is not for everyone.

That my friends is the lovely bruise you get from injecting yourself everyday in the stomach.

So while I am incredibly blessed to not have experienced any morning sickness, I do have to do this everyday.

16 weeks

 how far along?  16 weeks
how are you measuring?  16 weeks
size of baby? According to the Baby Bump app on my phone our baby is about the size of an avocado 4.6 inches and the weighs about 3.5 oz.
heartbeat?   145 bpm (at our 14 week appt)
total weight gain/loss? 0bs (back at my normal weight)
maternity clothes? Maternity jeans and slacks
sleep? Waking up once a night to go to the bathroom. Thankfully I am able to fall back asleep quickly!
best moment this week?  With the help with my sister on Saturday we decorated our mantel. I know this has nothing to do with the baby, but it was one of my goals in 2012.
movement? It won't be long before I will start feeling movement according to everyone I have talked to.
food cravings/aversions? I wouldn't say I am craving anything this week, but if there are pickles anywhere near by I am all over it (so stereotypical). We had left over bbq food at work this week and 2 separate people came up to me and told me there were pickles in the break room. What they didn't know is that I had already gotten a plate of them. I thought it was pretty funny!
gender predictions? I have decided what I think it is, but either way I will be completely fine with whatever God blesses us with. (I will tell you what and why in another post.)
what i miss: Sleeping on my stomach. I have been trying to sleep on my side this week, but I am just not used to it so it takes me longer to get to sleep.
what i'm looking forward to: Game night and dinner with friends.
how are you feeling? I felt pregnant this week for the first time. Up until this week I haven't experience any extreme pregnancy symptoms, which I am very thankful for, but at the same it hasn't felt 'real'. This week I have been bloated and feeling fat and my pants just don't fit right anymore. It has finally become real that there is a baby in my belly.
pregnancy moments: I put the conditioner in my hair first... I also went to the store and got eggs and pickles. When I got home I put the pickles in the fridge, but not the eggs. Two hours later Joel found the eggs and ask why they were left out. Ha! You can tell where my priorities are.

what i miss: Sleeping on my stomach. I can still do it, but its getting to be where its not very comfortable so I can't stay that way for very long.
what i'm looking forward to: Game night and dinner with friends.
how are you feeling? Tired. I thought I was supposed to get my energy back in the second trimester. I also keep waiting for the nesting to start, our house could use it.
pregnancy moments: I have pregnancy brain, I keep forgetting things that normally wouldn't slip my mind. So if I have typos in these post I apologize.

Truth

This video has been floating around facebook, but in case you haven't seen it you should.

It reminds me of the sermon we heard on Christmas day. How Mary and Joseph took Jesus to the church to be dedicated, but none of the religious leaders recognized Him.Simeon, however, did notice Him and bowed down and worshiped Him. Simeon had been searching, looking, and waiting on Christ, not just doing religious things. Are you searching for HIM?

Calling All Mommies

I was so excited to go shopping today for baby furniture, but now I am totally overwhelmed. The only thing I can decide on is the color! So I thought I would post on my blog and see if anyone has any advice!

Should we get a crib that converts to a twin size or a full size bed? It seems like those are the only kinds of cribs you can buy now. I love that they become toddler beds, but I don't think a full size bed will go into the room easily. On the other hand I think it is going to be really hard to find bedding for a smaller crib.

Should we buy the dresser that matches the crib? I don't like any of them!

Is it worth splurging on the crib? Prices are all over the board from $150-$1000. I don't plan on spending $1000 on the crib, but is it worth $600 or $700?

Is a crib something that we should buy used? I was looking on craigslist and they have some cribs on there, but is that something we should buy used? It makes me kinda nervous.

I feel better getting this off my chest. I would love to hear your thoughts and advice on buying baby furniture.
