My cycle is like clock-work. So in the past when I have been a day or two late I would freak out and take a pregnancy test and Joel would always get upset with me because I was wasting money. The day I did that is the day I would start. So this time I was determined not to tell him that I was late. I even got my little basket of tampons out thinking I was about to start. Every morning I would talk myself out of taking a pregnancy test. I took a little quiz that helps you determine if you are pregnant or not, and it said most likely I wasn’t but I should talk to my doctor just in case. (Gotta love the disclaimers). So finally on Friday when I was 5 days late I decided I would take the test. I got up at 5:30 am when my alarm went off and went to the bathroom. I peed on the little stick and set it on the back of the toilet. When I turned around it already had the second pink line! I couldn’t believe it. I didn’t know how I would feel when this day finally came, but I was a little overwhelmed. I decided to wait the rest of the 3 minutes like they tell you to. I guess I thought it might disappear. Well, it didn’t! So I went back in to the bedroom and crawled back in bed with Joel. I lean over him and said “Hey, I am five days late.” At this point I had his attention and he rolled over to me. I proceed to tell him that I just took a pregnancy test and that it was positive. I wish I had turned on the lights so that I could see his face, but I was thinking at the moment. I don’t remember him saying anything, but just leaning over and kissing me sweetly. We both got up and got ready for work, obviously we weren’t going back to sleep. After I was dress, while Joel was still in the shower I came into the living room all by myself and just prayed over our little one and thanked God for this blessing. All day at work we emailed back and forth about it. I also called the doctors office as soon as they opened.
My parents don’t live very far away, so I called and ask if they wanted to go to dinner. My mom said yes and so we met them at Cheddar’s. My cousin Autumn came with them so we decided not to tell them at dinner. I couldn’t let her find out before my sisters. So later that night I asked my parents if we could come over and watch the Ranger’s play game 7 of the World Series. They said yes (thank goodness). So we went over and I brought a little present for my dad. (His birthday was the day before). He didn’t want to accept it because we had already gotten him a present. But I said it is just a little something that I saw and thought of him. So during a commercial break he opened it. He had the greatest reaction! Inside was a picture frame that said “Grandkids: Fill a place in your heart you didn’t even know was empty” and on the inside of the frame part was a note that said “Baby Howard due July 2012”. He didn’t believe me at first, and said “is this real?” Then my mom wanted to know what it was all about so she took it and read it and started screaming. They were beyond thrilled! My mom said she had been praying for it.
PS – the Ranger’s didn’t win the World Series which was really disappointing, but it was hard to be too upset when we had just received the best news.
I am so excited to watch game 1 of the World Series. I heard this song on the radio this morning, so I thought I would share. They are making a video for it and as soon as they post it I will post it on here.
Yesterday our neighborhood had a garage sale. We had 5 or 6 boxes to get rid of so we decided to set it all out there and see if we could get rid of any of it. Michelle and Katy also brought some stuff over. Sadly it was a bust! I guess our part of the neighborhood is just too new, so no one came over by our house. I think we sold 10 things between the 3 of us. We are going to try again in the spring, so right now all of that stuff has been put in the attic.
However, since we put all of our stuff away so early, I was able to go out and look for stuff for our house! I am not usually a fan of garage sales, but I think I found some great stuff!
The couch is only a year old! It was originally $1300 at Haverty's (I looked up the scu number online when we got home). Now we have a brown couch and a tan one, but at least we have more seating. I also need to figure out how to arrange my furniture now because I am not sure I like the way it is now. (So if anyone wants to come over and help me, you are more than welcome)
The patio furniture came with a huge umbrella, but since our patio is covered we gave it to my parents to put out by there pool.
We also got a book shelf for our study and a set of golf clubs.
All in all I think it was a pretty successful day!

I don't normally like dressing up, I never have. I am just not a girly girl. Most of the time I wear black slack and a nice shirt to work, but my hair is almost always in a pony tail. However, yesterday I decided I would dress up for work. I pick out my outfit the night before, I wore a skirt which is unusual for me.
Joel's mimi gave me a scarf last time we were in Florida that she got while on a trip to Romania. I decided to wear it today. She had surgery yesterday to remove the rest of the cancer from her cheek. It was a good reminder to pray for her recovery today. You can read about her journey here.
Thank you Mimi for the scarf! I got more compliments on it than I can count.
I have been MIA recently and that is because the following things have taken over my life...
I truly love sports, so don't think that Joel is forcing me to watch. I am just not one of those girls who can blog and watch the game at the same time. I enjoy watching the game too much. But in case you are wondering what we have been up to the last month please check out these links.
In my family birthdays are a little crazy. It all starts with Joel's birthday on Aug 13, then my parents anniversary on Aug 31, then Bre's birthday on the 6th of Sept, Autumn on the 10th, mine on the 20th, my mom's on the 8th of Oct and ending with my dad's on the 27th of Oct... just in time to get ready for Thanksgiving and Christmas. (Emily's birthday is all by itself in May)
All that to say that this weekend was all about celebrating my mom! On Saturday everyone came over to our house to watch LSU play while we ate pizza and cake (AND chips and dip).
On Sunday we went to the fair, which you can read about here.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO THE BEST MOM A GIRL COULD ASK FOR!
This weekend Joel's parents were in Midland for a reunion so they decided to come to visit Dallas while they were out this way and stay with us (at least my MIL did).
We picked them up from the airport on Sunday morning before church and then headed to the church that Joel and I grew up in for a visit. It was good to see everyone.
After church a bunch of people came over to our house to eat pizza and watch the Cowboy game since it was on at noon. It was so sad to see the Boys blow such a big lead!
Dinner was a special treat! Since we don't get to see each other very often we got to go do something fun that we wouldn't normally do. So we ate at the Melting Pot. It was such a fun experience.
If you haven't been before you order a dip and then they give you things to dip with, except with your entree you have raw meat and leave it in there to cook for a minute or two. It is totally different from any restaurant that I have ever been to.
We decided on cheddar cheese for our appetizer.
Mojo for our entree
And milk chocolate with ameretto for dessert!
It was all delicious!
Joel and I both took off on Monday and got to spend sometime with his mom visiting her friends (and ours). Then we went shopping for my birthday present (more on that later).
Thanks for coming to visit, and now that we have a house we except to see you guys more often.
