Cake Decorating 101

As you can tell from past post each Wednesday the Ladies in my Bible study have a fun activity. This week went over to Julie's house and her twin sister taught us how to decorate a cake. It helps to have the right tools.

First we let Betsy show us

Then we got to try it ourselves. It's harder than it looks

Next it was time to mix in some color.

Then we used the colorful icing to pipe designs on our cakes. I have what they call a crumb layer on my cake, since I have so many pieces of cake in my icing.

The whole gang

Finished Product!

I brought it home and Joel ate a piece right away!

Service Project

Today our ABF went to an apartment complex to serve the people in our community. It was wonderful to get out and do something for someone else. Plus the kids were so CUTE!! We went and sat under a tree with tons of books and before you knew it all of the kids were out of their apartments to join us. Jenny is a kindergarden teacher, and she emailed her school asking for donations, we ended up with 7 (yes, 7) boxes of books that we were able to give to the kids. We also took cookies and water. The water was a great idea because it was hot outside!

This little girl was the cutest thing ever! I could have taken her home with me!

And this is Jordy. Joel gave him lots of piggy back rides, and they became best friends. Isn't he cute?!?

I look forward to hopefully going back in the fall when we can spend more time there because it will be cooler. If you are ever feeling bad about your life, I totally recommend doing something for someone else. It definitely puts life in perspective.

Bubbly Breanne in Baton Rouge

So I have never done this before, but I have an amazing sister so I thought 'Why not?' For those of you who are not popping over from Kelly's Korner... I read a blog called Kelly's Korner and today is Show Us Your Life -Singles, what better single gal to write about than my sister.

Let me introduce you to Breanne!

Breanne is an awesome performer and by performer I mean singer. She absolutely loves God with all of her heart and you can tell every time she uses her talent for him.

She is a 22 year old senior at THE Louisiana State University. She is so smart and will be graduating in December with a double major Vocal Performance Education and Mass Communications. She loves her Tigers, but her favorite is Dallas Mavericks Basketball!

She is a total goofball that has never met a stranger.

She is so good at including everyone and making everyone feel lucky. I know that when she has a family and home she will be the perfect hostess!

Breanne is beautiful inside and out!

Please comment below if you would like her information! (She is currently in Baton Rouge, but our family lives in Dallas where she will be returning when she graduates!)

Celebrating 4 years

Today Joel and I celebrated 4 years of marriage. We got ourselves a new computer as a gift to each other. Not really because we wanted, but because our old computer quit working. (We had decided not to get each other a gift this year).

That night we went to dinner at Red Lobster. I know we're big spenders right?!?! Ha! But we both love it... in fact it is Joel's favorite restaurant. It was a great date! We got to talk about what the future holds as far as when we are going to buy a house, start a family, and all about his new job! Life is so good, and we are so blessed!

Happy Anniversary Joel

Four years ago today, I married my best friend!

I Corinthians 13:8-13

Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. 9 For we know in part and we prophesy in part, 10 but when completeness comes, what is in part disappears. 11 When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me. 12 For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.
13 And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.

I remember in middle school while at d-now we all prayed for our husbands. Back then I didn't know who he was or where he was, but I still prayed that someday he would find me. Again, when I was in high school we did a Bible study on the most important things in a husband. We started off the lesson by drawing a stick figure on the board and we all chose things that we wanted in a guy (ie: dark hair, tall, muscular, blue eyes, etc), but in the end the only thing that matters is that he loves God. That he puts God first in his life.

Well, in December of 2003, I met Joel!

I couldn't imagine life without him. He is truly the best husband I could have prayed for.

He is very patience with me, very kind, and most importantly he loves God with all of his heart.

Thank you for always being there for me and loving me no matter what. I know life hasn't been easy lately, but it is about to get better! I am so proud of you! I can't wait to see what God has in store for us in the next 50+ years! I LOVE YOU!

I have some explaining to do...

So on Friday I posted this, I was in a hurry so I didn't really get to explain the importance of this.

A couple of weeks ago, Joel posted on Facebook that he had gotten a job at NationStar mortgage. We were thrilled and it was a huge answer to prayers! He was going to be a loan counselor. Basically, that is a glamorous name for someone who calls people when they are past due on their mortgage. The hours were going to be 7am - 3pm or 3pm - 11pm. I wasn't looking forward to him having to work till 11, but I was so excited for him to have a job it almost didn't matter. Anyways, they did a background check on him which took 2 weeks (it was clean don't worry). Then they officially extended him an offer. He was then scheduled to begin work on the 20th of June.

Meanwhile, he interviewed with Reach Local an online advertising company and didn't get the job. It would have been a better job than NationStar, but we weren't to terribly disappointed because we knew he still had another job.

Meanwhile BCBS, who Joel had interviewed with back in April and had been passed over for the job, called and said they had another Assistant Underwriter position open. They wanted to know if he would be interested. Since, at that time he didn't 'officially' have the job at NationStar (not that we were worried), he said he was interested.

Well, Friday afternoon as I was pulling into our apartment complex, I noticed Joel pull in behind me. I thought it was strange since he was supposed to be packing the car... Anyway we both got out of our cars and he told me he had some bad news. My heart was racing because I knew it had to do with a job. He went on to tell me that he wasn't going to be starting on Monday. I asked him why not, and he said cause he had to quit. WHAT!!! Then it hit me, YOU GOT THE JOB AT BCBS? He smiled and hugged me and said "Yep".

You have no idea what a huge answer to prayers this is. We hugged and both cried, I was relieved, thankful, excited, and happy all at once.

It has been along time coming, and I know God's timing is perfect. If he had gotten this job back in April he would have gone to Chicago for 6 weeks for training. Since he got it now, all the training will be in house here in Richardson. It is literally 10 minutes from our house. The benefits are GREAT and the salary is exactly what we wanted and more than either of the other jobs.

Thank you for all of your prayers and support! God is good and we are so thankful for all of you.

Happy Father's Day!

I am so blessed to have a wonderful, fantastic, super, great, terrific, marvelous, amazing Dad! I couldn't imagine going through life without him. Happy Father's Day!!

And to my FIL thank you for being a great example for my husband! I know he is the wonderful man he is because you helped raise him.

To GOD be all the glory! This a HUGE answer to prayers and we know it's because our God and King has better plans for us! Thank you to everyone who has been praying for us, God is good!

So a couple of weeks ago we were invited to go camping with some friends we used to go to church with. I wasn't thrilled about the idea of loading everything up, unpacking it, building a tent and then the next day having to pack all up again. When I have gone camping in the past we have gone for more than one night. Anyways, Joel wanted to go, so he talked me into it. It ended up being lots of fun minus the heat.

So I got off of work a little bit early on Friday and drove home only to find out we couldn't leave yet (more on that here). Eventually, we did get on the road and headed towards Eisenhower State Park to camp on Lake Texoma.

Once there we began pitching our tents.

Jana showing off their tent

Nathan and Jeff getting the fire ready so that we could cook dinner (and by we I mean Jeff).

Cutting up the veggies for dinner.

Leo making new friends

Daniel and Jeff cooking

Then we had story time with Jeff. We all sat around and talked and read about the differnce between Middle Class and Millionaires.

After many hours around the fire it was time for bed. Off to our tent we went. Only problem was it was too HOTTTTTTT to sleep. We laid there and talked back and forth through the tents. Eventually Jana told us that if we go wet our clothes and lay them on top of us it will cool us off, so that's what I did. After about an hour sleep I woken up when Leo barked at a raccoon. I then heard noise outside, Leo growling, and Joel saying "It's in the bushes". I screamed and that woke everyone up. I heard Daniel clap so I thought if I clapped that would scare it away. In the morning I discovered my screaming and clapping woke several people up.

Once we packed away all of our stuff again we headed to the other campsite for breakfast. Oh so good!

Look at the cute plates I bought for the trip.

The gang eating... (Jana, Lauren, Joel, Jeff, Nicole, Karissa, and Nathan)

Then it was off for hiking, but not before we spotted some deer.

Jana and I decided that we didn't want to hike so we laid out on the beach and waited for everyone to join us.

After, some swimming in the lake we decided it was too hot and it was time to head home. Leo has never slept so hard in his entire life. As soon as we got in the car he crashed in my lap. All in all it was a fun time, but I learned my lesson. Never go camping in the middle of June in Texas!

PS - We are about to hit our 8th straight day in triple digit heat! I feel so sorry for my friend Krysten who is 7 months pregnant.
